Learning Objectives In math, the students are doing such a wonderful job using the strategies they have learned for addition, subtraction, and finding the unknown partners in addition equations. This week we will learn how to find the unknown in subtraction and we will put it all together when we learn the relationships of addition and subtraction using fact families. In ELA, we are reading our next fiction text entitles Fine, Fine School. We will be learning all about story elements as well as telling about the major events in the story. In writing, we are focusing on proper use of capitalization and punctuation. In science, we are still are still learning all about Balance and Motion. This week will be focusing more on the motion aspect.

Learning Objectives In ELA, we are still reading our non fiction text, What Do You With a Tail Like This? The students are using text feature to identify the main topic of the text and key details. In writing, we are perfecting how to write narratives. I hope you were able to listen to your child's writing this past weekend. They are making great progress in their writing. In Letterland, we are beginning unit 7. This unit will be reviewing all the short vowel sounds we have covered so far. The words at the top of the Un- Homework are our spelling words for this week. Students are tested on these words as well as words that follow the spelling pattern each Friday. Please be sure to practice the words and spelling patterns each night. In math, we will be covering subtraction and finding the missing partner this week, Students will learn different strategies they can use to help them solve these equations. In Science, we are investigating balance and motion. The students have been having so much fun with this unit thus far.

This week we will focus on using how the strategies we have learned can help us find the missing partner or addend. In ELA, we will be reading our next non-fiction text entitled What Can You Do With a Tail Like This? We will be using text features once again to determine the main topic and details of the text. The students are doing a phenomenal job with this. In writing, the students will be writing their third small moment. This time they will be writing their narratives independently. Finally, we will be kicking off our science unit: Balance and Motion.

Week of September 20, 2019 Happy Fall! Even though it doesn't quite feel like it outside. Tomorrow we will taking our fall pictures. Don't forget to send in the form that was sent home a few weeks ago. No payment is required at this point. Once the school has received the pictures, they will be sent home. You will have an opportunity to view the picture, then decide if you want to purchase them. There will some very important information coming home in your child's Tuesday folders today. First, be on the lookout for field trip forms. There will be a letter attached detailing all the information. In addition, your child's mClass report will be coming home. This detailed report will give you information on your child's reading performance at the beginning of the school year. Last, lookout for the potassium iodide form. If you do not wish for your child to receive the dose of Kl in the event of a nuclear emergency, please be sure to fill out the form and return it to school tomorrow. I will also be sending home some math practice sheets. These do not have to be turned into to me, but they serve as a good review of topics already covered in class. In both texts, the students are using text features to locate key ideas and identify the main topic. The students are doing such a wonderful job with this. In writing, we are still working on our small moment narratives. The students are really working hard to become better writers, In math this week, we will be starting our unit on addition. The students will a variety of strategies to show their thinking when finding the total and the unknown partner. Be sure to review math sheets each day and have them teach you a new strategy. In social studies, we will be continuing our conversation on how community helpers can help keep everyone in the community safe, as well as how following rules can help ensure our safety.

Week of September 23, 2019 Whoa! I cannot believe we are halfway through the first quarter already!! Be on the lookout for your child's interim progress report in their Tuesday folder tomorrow. Please remember to sign the envelope and return it to school on Wednesday. You may keep the progress report for your records. The students are really working hard to be wise and complete their assignments. Each they are getting more acclimated to the routines of our classroom. Please commend them on the progress they have made thus far!! Also in your child's Tuesday folders you will find our first math assessment. Please review this assessment with your child sign it and return it on Wednesday.
Calling all VOLUNTEERS! Mrs. Bishop our room mom has reached out to some of you regarding coming in on Tuesday afternoons to put our Tuesday folders together. I usually have all items ready to go. All you would have to do is put the papers in the folders. This should not take more than 30- 45 minutes. If you are able to volunteer for this task please reach out to me or Mrs. Bishop. Week of September 16, 2019 I am happy to say that our mClass testing is complete and our learning has taken off!! I will use this information from the assessment to help guide my instruction in reading. The information I gathered from the mClass testing will be shared with you soon.
Thank you for be so diligent in helping your child thus far this year. Just a few reminders. The homework for the week are sent home on Mondays, The students are to complete the assignments and turn in their tickets on Friday in order to be eligible for the homework raffle. In addition, remember to read with your child for at least 15 minutes each night. They can also login to Raz kids or Ed Galaxy as part as their reading time. Some have been having a hard time logging into Ed Galaxy on mobile devices. If available , try having your child login to Ed Galaxy on a desktop computer.

This week in ELA, we will be comparing the characters, setting, and major events of our two stories Stellaluna and Dragons and Giants. We have been working diligently to dig into these texts and the students are really doing a great job. In math, we have started our new unit on counting, writing, and representing teen numbers. Feel free to have your child practice counting objects and writing numbers from 1-20. Here is a neat video we watched in class today. In Social Studies, we are discussing how we can be good citizens in our school, classroom, home, and community. We are having so much fun learning each day. Please remember to review all the work that students bring home in their daily folders each day. It doesn't have to take long, just ask your child to explain their assignment and how they came up with their responses. This will help them to better retain the concepts learned that day.

Week of September 2, 2019 One week down already!! Our year is truly off to a great start. The students have been doing such a wonderful job learning our classroom procedures and expectations! I am so proud of all the work they have done so far!! Please continue to support me in speaking with your child about the importance of following procedures. You certainly can help them practice at home by giving them multi step directions e and holding them accountable in following through on your directions. This will sharpen their listening skills and help them to become more independent each day!
This week, I will be administering the mClass reading assessment. This assessment measures your child's reading skills. I will use the data from this assessment to guide my reading instruction in order to help them become better readers! You will receive a copy of your child's results with their first quarter report card.
Learning Objectives
This week, we will be diving into learning. In ELA, we will be reading our first story Stellaluna. While reading this story, we will be learning all about the story elements ( characters, setting, main events). We will also be kicking off our first writing unit, focusing on narratives. Students will be learning how to write small moments that have taken place in their lives. In math, we will learn how to create and interpret bar graphs, picture graphs, and tally graphs.
In addition, your child will be receiving their homework or "unhomework" as we like to call it. The "unhomework" will be sent home on Mondays and tickets should be turned in on Fridays. Please see the letter in your child's daily folder for more information. Although the "unhomework" is optional, your child should be reading at least 15 minutes each night.
I will be sending home some scholastic catalogs in your child's Tuesday folder this week. This is a great opportunity to enrich your child's library at home, as well as our classroom library. You can shop online using this link . Orders for this month will be due September 30.

Learning Objectives This week we will be focusing on building relationships and getting to know each other. We will also be working really hard to learn our classroom procedures and WISE expectations. We will be learning these procedures through role playing, stories, activities, and of course lots of practice. Laying this fine foundation will help us to build a strong classroom community and have a successful year together!
Families, you too can help your child to have a successful year by being an active participant in your child's education. Please be sure to check your child's Daily Folder each night. Remove practice pages and review concepts learned that day. Daily Folders should return to school the following day. Weekly Folders (white with Owl) will be sent home on Tuesdays. This folder will contain notices from the school, graded assignments, and other important documents. These folder should be returned to school on Wednesdays.
